Freedom is practiced why acting in the framework of laws, just like in a chess game.

The "freedom" of the brute, on the other hand, is doing whatever whim comes ahead, with neither intellectual effort, nor intellectual discipline.

The "complexity" he views is ,rather, chaos and
complicating things without necessity,
whereas the true intellectual mind purports to find elegant solutions to complex problem and to simplifly things by hard intellectual effort and ingenious work.

For the brute, the world is basicly simple and two- dimensional, and he adds artificial entities to complicate things to entertain his sensation-seeking brain. And he runs away from his inevitable inner emptiness and boredom by acts of destruction and unnecessary complications.
As to personal Autonomy and ethical principles, he "abides, rather, to the dictates of his whims
And he is the enemy of free thought, although sometimes preaching similar retorics to confuse man's integrity
