to anyone that did not read the book, you should note that the above comment is a completely inaccurate description of it. (Although maybe you already figured that out from the other nonsense there.)

The authors do not "advocate" anything - they point out connections. They even later do an analysis that says that for every one murder that is reduced by legalizing abortions, there are at least a hundred more abortions that are performed. They say that there are many more side effects to abortions and people should not make their decision with respect to whether it should be legal based on that connection alone. (I think however that this connections just demonstrates that not only does making abortions illegal lead to parents raising children they did not want (which is a tautology) but it also leads to, in some cases, these parents doing a very bad job at it.)

Also the number of abortions in the U.S. is much too large to be explained only by women with money. Especially in the big cities (where crime is higher) women of all means have access to clinics.

By the way, the book is not even very judgemental towards the drug dealers, and is pretty straightforward about the fact that this is often the best if not the only opportunity they have. (mentioning that many of them had to also work as clerks in McDonalds and asked the sociologists to try to get them jobs as janitors in the university, which they considered to be a step up).

I'm afraid that you do not understand the situation and reality that we are living under. First of all, we should clear up the misguided notion that "simply making connections" lies within neutral ground. There are no such things as unbiased "connections"…we must seek to understand the motives of the authors/researchers with respect to why they use certain methods to examine things, why they choose to examine the things they do, and from what socioeconomic background they are conducting their research methods. Speaking from a place of white, male, upper-middle class privilege when making the "simple connection" that crime rates drop when women of color have abortions, is a loaded and highly charged statement at best…in fact, as I stated before, it's downright racist. Secondly, it's simply incorrect that women of all socioeconomic backgrounds have the same access to abortion. In most middle-American states, clinics are sparse, which may require travel expenses if a woman needs to obtain a procedure, and furthermore, abortion procedures are not paid for by Medicaid in all states, which would entail a woman needing to pay out of pocket (which can run over $300 at the least).
